The leftovers
What do you do with your Thanksgiving leftovers? Freeze them to save them for future dinners, transform them into a new dish? Maybe a spicy miso turkey ramen? Mashed potato crust pizza? Turkey nachos? Maybe those don't sound the most appetizing, or maybe they do; either way, I think we can all agree that leftovers are a huge part of Thanksgiving. If you agree with that, you probably grew up being told that "leftovers taste so much better." Now that is very true, but why? The food is cold; it gets soggy, and the flavor isn't as potent. Perhaps it's because you eat leftovers alone?
Hear me out; you are encouraged to eat as much as you can on Thanksgiving and indulge if you will. But, how can you indulge if you are not 100% yourself? You're wearing nice clothes, sitting around a table, mingling with friends and family that you rarely see, using proper etiquette. Of course, you're not going to stuff yourself to the brim; that would be unattractive and impolite. However, the next day, when you are all alone, there are no boundaries. You don't have to use plates; just eat out of the Tupperware to save yourself from washing extra dishes. You don't have to sit at the table, sit on the couch watching TV like we all know you usually do. You don't have to wear nice clothes, as a matter of fact, don't change out of your pajamas. And lastly, no worrying about being polite, fart and burp all you want without saying "excuse me," and no need to clean up when you are done. You'll get to that in a few days.
Enjoy those leftovers in the security of your own home, being your most authentic self, disgusting. But just know, you're not alone; everyone else around the country is doing the exact same thing. Except for those who are putting away the Thanksgiving decorations already in order to get out the Christmas ones. Since when was it an activity to get a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving? Is it safe to say that we all need at least a week to digest our Thanksgiving meal before dealing with Christmas? I mean, Thanksgiving isn't really over until you eat every single leftover sitting in the refrigerator.
